Description
• Motor Pulley: A grooved wheel attached directly to a motor’s drive shaft. It uses a belt (V-belt, timing belt, etc.) to transmit rotational power and torque over a distance to a driven shaft.
• Motor Coupling: A component used to connect two rotating shafts directly end-to-end (such as a motor shaft to a pump or gearbox shaft) to transmit power without using a belt. It is designed to accommodate minor shaft misalignments and absorb vibrations.
• Belt and Pulley Coupling System: When these terms are used together, it generally refers to a belt and pulley coupling configuration. In this arrangement, a pulley acts as the coupling mechanism between the motor and the driven machinery via an intermediary drive belt.
Core Functions
1. Power Transmission: It transfers rotational kinetic energy and torque from the electric motor to driven equipment (e.g., pumps, fans, or compressors).
2. Speed and Torque Adjustment: Unlike direct couplings, changing the size (diameter) of the motor pulley relative to the driven pulley allows you to increase or decrease the output speed and torque mechanical advantage.
3. Vibration Dampening & Isolation: The flexible belt running over the pulley absorbs shock loads, dampens motor vibrations, and prevents physical stress from transferring down the drive line.
